PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (Mechanical Engineering CADD position) |
BELCAN CORPORATION (contractor
for UTC Aerospace Systems), Rockford, IL
06/11 - present
Mechanical/Electrical
Engineering Detailer (Drafter)/Modeler
·
Detailing (Drafting)/Modeling
Experience:
|
Developed
commercial and military assemblies, models, and drawing designs for
production, non-production (test equipment applications) work and
incorporated Engineering Changes (ECs), while utilizing Unigraphics NX 7.5
three-dimensional modeling software in Teamcenter PLM and native NX
environments. Additionally, used CADAM (CCDraft) for minor EC
two-dimensional drawing modifications. o
Production work involved the generation of new and the modification
existing mechanical (85%) and electrical (15%) drawings of models and
assemblies at all stages. Two major programs included jet engine
system’s gearboxes and pumps for mechanical designs. Electrical
designs included developing drawings of diagrams, schematics, and printed
circuit boards. Mechanical and electrical drawings included setting
up the drawing views (including polygonal), updating views, layouts,
sections, detail views, inserting the latest borders (patterns including
the copyright, title block, etc.), decals (blocks and cells in other CADD
softwares), generating bill-of-materials (BOMs) manually and by updating
the BOM table, and running various scripts for automatically inserting
decals, custom symbols, and analyzing drawings with scrapers to identify
potential errors with flagged notes / find numbers / discontinued
specifications or parts, while following UTC’s NX User’s Guide and Drafting
Guidelines. Utilized UTC printed and online sets of company standards
to ensure models and drawings met those standards in addition to using the
minimum standard requirements for various types of drawings (i.e. detail,
assembly, inseparable assembly, source control, tabulated, etc.) o
Test equipment projects included the modeling of piece parts and
assemblies for two vibration tests, a low-air speed test, and numerous
other tests, in which mating parts were checked for tolerances and fits,
vendor parts were downloaded and inserted into the assemblies, and
additional research was performed for standard parts in IHS. Many of
the standards of test equipment projects followed the same guidelines as
production work, but with less rigorousness. o
When incorporating the ECs
of mechanical and electrical drawings, models, and assemblies, verified the
accuracy of the ECs, contacted mechanical and electrical engineers when
modifications to the ECs were necessary, and incorporated ECs according to
UTC drafting/modeling standards. o
While working with NX 7.5 Teamcenter
9.1, performed numerous searches, updated item revision information,
and ran analyses on assemblies’ product structures, in which I created and
modified in excess of 3,000 drawings, piece parts, and assemblies. o
Provided Weekly Status Reports per
UTC standards for tracking the above work. o
In developing new drawings or
working with existing drawings, provided Geometric Dimensioning and
Tolerancing (GD&T) after performing minor stack-up analyses based on
ASME Y14.5M-1994 standards. |
·
Training
and Leadership Role:
Assisted the
drafting division in checking work from less experienced detailers/modelers,
while mentoring and providing direction in daily drafting activities.
Reviewed, checked, and corrected the work of other detailers. While
controlling a test equipment project of electrical drawings, disseminated
some of the drawings and provided direction to less experienced detailers in
reference to the overall format and standards to be followed with
step-by-step set of instructions.

Transportation
Engineering Design/ CADD Experience:
o Designs:
Produced
several intricate interstate interchange (I-25/I-40) alternatives within
geometrical State Design Standards criteria. Developed optimal
geometric roadway functional/improvement designs (including fourteen roundabouts,
one double-lane) and channelization marking plans for roadway and
intersection improvement projects. Generated pavement striping
plans. Created typical street cross-sections. Produced
channelization marking designs, parking plans, roadway enhancement designs,
and signal designs for improvements to roadways and intersections with and
orthographic aerials.
o Softwares:
AutoCAD
versions release 12 through 2008 and Intergraph MicroStation (r. 4.0), Land
Desktop 3.0, AutoCAD Map 2002, AutoTrack, and AutoTurn
o Standards (including reference manuals and
guides):
Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA), FHWA’s “Roundabouts: An Informational Guide,”
American Disability Act (ADA), AASHTO’s “Roadside Design Guide,” Illinois
Department of Transportation (IDOT), “A Policy on Geometric Design of
Highways and Streets 2001,” MUTCD, “Traffic Engineering Handbook – Institute
of Transportation Engineers,” and “Manual of Traffic Signal Design –
Institute of Transportation Engineers”
o Other:
Developed CADD
and roundabout standards. Generated cost estimates for Bike Project and
Pavement Striping Plans. Provided Plan Reviews for new Subdivisions
from a Traffic Engineering perspective. Reviewed, commented, and served
as lead in the developer’s review committee concerning transportation related
issues for new subdivisions and revised lots, while responding to developers
and engineers’ questions. Supplied drawings, diagrams, and tables from
